What is Love Your Gut Powder made from?

Love Your Gut Powder is organic Diatomaceous Earth – also known as Fossil Shell Flour (Amorphous Silica). It is a vegan food (not a medication). Love Your Gut Powder is highest food-grade, meeting the strict criteria of Food Standards Australia, New Zealand.

Is Love Your Gut powder just Diatomaceous Earth?

Yes, it’s 100% food-grade diatomaceous earth (DE). Nothing added. No nasties.

Is Diatomaceous Earth safe to consume?

Our Diatomaceous Earth is food-grade and extremely safe. There are different grades of DE that aren’t so don’t just buy any DE product. It needs to be the highest finest quality.  Think of it like the difference between salt for the pool and Himalayan Sea Salt!

Does Love Your Gut Powder fit into my dietary requirements?

Yes. Love Your Gut Powder is gluten-free, vegan, non-GMO, dairy-free and sugar-free. LYG helps clean and tone your gut. And a clean gut works the most efficiently to disperse nutrients and hydration to your organs. A clean gut also helps your body naturally dispose of the bad nutrients and hydration we consume.

How do I take it?

Take one teaspoon (1.8 grams) daily of the LYG powder in water, juice or smoothie or however you prefer to consume. Take 2 capsules twice a day (maximum 4 capsules) daily. Be sure to drink lots of water throughout the day.

What does it taste like?

It has no taste and no odour. It is ideal for adding a little Love to your cooking. It even acts as a natural, healthy thickener.

When’s the best time to take it?

Anytime. Ideally, one hour before a meal. I recommend having it with at least half a cup of water or juice. Some people even put it in their tea and coffee! You can have it with food if that's the most convenient to you.

I love LYG powder and what it’s doing for my body! Can I take LYG forever or do I need to stop after a certain period of time?

Yes you can take forever. I’ve taken LYG every day for over ten years. Most days it's once but when I've overindulged or feeling bloated I'll still take it.  It's very gentle - I liken it to brushing my teeth. If I don't brush for a day, a film of plaque arrives and it’s the same with my digestive system. Waste, plaque, bad bacteria builds up constantly so a little gentle cleanse with LYG works for me every day. Remember LYG is a food (not a medication).

Diatomaceous Earth looks like a cylinder/honeycomb full of holes that has a negative ion charge. As the millions of cylinders move through the stomach and digest tract, they attract and absorb bacteria, fungi, protozoa, viruses, endotoxins, pesticides, drug residues, E-coli and heavy metals. These pathogens are trapped inside the cylinder and passed out of the body. Part of the reason is because the bad bacteria have a positive charge and the good bacteria generally have a negative or neutral charge, as does Diatomaceous Earth.

Additionally, any larger parasites that happen to be in the stomach or digestive tract are taken care of by the Diatomaceous Earth particles. This de-burdening of the digestive system results in not only a healthier digestive system but a healthier body that’s less prone to sickness. Most people who ingest Diatomaceous Earth on a daily basis state they generally feel better because the bad bacteria, parasites and heavy metals are being removed from the body and so, the immune system has less work to do.

What are health benefits of LYG?

Taken daily, it has the ability to sweep clear forms of bacteria out of the system. It helps eliminate parasites and intestinal worms from the body and aids in keeping the bowels clean. It contains 15 minerals that are known to promote healthier, shinier hair, skin and nails. LYG is super-rich in absorbable iron (and unlike the constipation-inducing iron supplements, the iron in LYG is gentle). It can help lower cholesterol, blood pressure and give relief from arthritis pain. It can help in increasing energy, clearing sinuses and relieving coughs. LYG cleans and detoxifies the body.

Is Diatomaceous Earth absorbed in the blood stream?

A small amount of food-grade Diatomaceous Earth is absorbed into the blood stream. As it moves throughout the body, it can clean and break up plaque in the blood vessels and may destroy bad fats. Many people have noticed that taking LYG has lowered their cholesterol levels by as much as 40-50 points. Additionally, many people have also noticed a decrease in high blood pressure. I want to add that this evidence is anecdotal.

Would it rid the body of parasites and heavy metals?

It will help get rid of both parasites and heavy metals as it’s a gentle but effective cleanse. As it is negatively charged it ‘attracts’ positively charged particles such as bad bacteria and heavy metals. It’s not a quick fix or a purge and it’s not a laxative. It's a mineral food.

Why do you use fresh water vs. salt water DE?

Fresh water deposits like ours have a consistent diatom presence. They are fossilized remains of ancient algae. They have a microscopic tubular shape. This shape and strength of the fossil 'shell' is critical to its effectiveness. Our deposit is more consistent in purity of other elements that have settled in it. Salt-water deposits contain a mix of types of diatoms of different shapes. Their fossilized shells are fragile and break easily. This renders them ineffective for our purposes. The salt-water deposits are less predictable in their sediments.

What’s the difference between amorphous and crystalline silica?

Amorphous silica is silica in its natural occurring state. It is a trace mineral every mammal on the planet needs to gain full health. LYG is amorphous silica.  Diatomaceous earth becomes crystalline when it is exposed to extreme heat through volcanic activity or commercial manufacturing means, e.g. the type of diatomaceous earth used in swimming pool, and other, filtration systems are crystalline silica. Crystalline silica is extremely dangerous when inhaled or ingested. It is not biodegradable.

Is there a difference between “Naturopathic Grade” and “Food Grade” products?

Our diatomaceous earth has been approved by Food Standards Australia and New Zealand.

Like salt diatomaceous earth has many grades. There's super healthy Celtic sea salt and then there is not safe to consume pool salt. Diatomaceous Earth has many grades too. Supercharged Food's diatomaceous earth is food-grade and approved for human consumption at the serving indicated on the pack.

Naturopathic-grade comes from the many naturopaths who recommend Supercharged Food's diatomaceous earth. In my research, for purest sources I worked with a number of Naturopaths to ensure the highest quality available.

Supercharged Food's Diatomaceous Earth is exclusively sourced from USA. I tried sources from around the world, including Australia, and in over two years of research, composition analysis and testing, I’ve found our source is the best and purest available.

Does it also get rid of good bacteria?

Diatomaceous Earth does not absorb beneficial bacteria due to its negative ion charge. It attracts bad bacteria, which is generally positively charged. It won't attract the good bacteria, which is negatively charged. However, we recommend consuming probiotic-rich foods and taking our Love Your Gut Synbiotic supplement to help the good bacteria within the gut flourish and grow, as the body has improved nutrient absorption, enabling more good bacteria to grow.

What minerals are in it?

Why do you say the product is great for skin, hair and nails?

Our product is high in 92+% amorphous silica which is proven to be great for hair, skin and nails. It also supports collagen production.

How can it help with weight-loss?

A toxic intestinal tract can result in weight gain and even obesity, as people lack the proper nutrients their body needs to promote optimum health. As a result, they continue to eat more foods in attempt to obtain nutrients their bodies are lacking from being toxic. Diatomaceous Earth helps gently sweep away the toxins from the digestive tract and improve nutrient absorption.

Can Diatomaceous Earth help in deworming?

We’ve had a number of people respond with great success in deworming. It is a natural wormer as opposed to many chemical based dewormers.

The recommended serve is one teaspoon (1.8g) daily, is there any concern with overdose?

The product is a food, not a medication, so it’s safe to consume. It’s a gentle cleanse, not a quick fix so be sure to keep that in mind when consuming.

Will Love Your Gut Powder affect the effectiveness of medication?

It won’t affect the way your medication works as it’s a food, not a medicine. In fact, a clean and toned gut should help your body absorb the medication more efficiently. However, if you are concerned, you should check with your health professional before trying it.

I’m allergic to Spirulina. Diatomaceous Earth is algae, does that mean I’ll be allergic to it too?

Diatomaceous Earth is fossilised, it’s no longer algae. It's a mineral.

Only very few people have had a reaction to the powder but that’s usually just a detox response, like when people stop drinking caffeine. It doesn’t last long and is usually alleviated by drinking plenty of water and taking it easy.

Is Diatomaceous Earth okay for people with Crohn’s disease?

We’ve had a number of people with Crohn’s who’ve had success with alleviating symptoms and have experienced improved bowel function and better energy levels. Please speak to your doctor if you are worried.

Is it safe to take when pregnant or breastfeeding?

Yes, it’s safe to take, as it’s a food, not a medication. There are many different grades of Diatomaceous Earth, so it’s important to take only the highest quality, food-grade Diatomaceous Earth like Supercharged Foods.

As LYG is high in silica, does it pose a problem for people with implants?

There’s no safety concerns identified at taking the proposed level: 1 tsp (1.8gm) daily of powder.

Always speak to your doctor if you are unsure.
