JUGGLING TOO MUCH THESE HOLIDAYS?

A blog By Lee Holmes, Clinical Nutritionist, author and founder of Supercharged Food.

Everyone seems to be juggling a bit at this time of the year - holiday planning, finishing work (deadlines, am I right?!), Xmas Day, social events...you name it, they're all up in the air. This blog is about looking after you gut so that you can catch all these balls and have a ball these holidays.

Maintaining gut health during busy, social, and hectic times like right about now, can be a challenge, but it's essential to not only make the most of the frivolities but also to start 2024 with some love in your gut. Here are some creative and practical ways to supercharge your gut health in the midst of a jammed schedule.

Wrap your loving arms around gut health this holiday season

Pre-game with Probiotics
Take a high-quality probiotic supplement before heading out to social events or indulging in large meals. Probiotics can help balance the gut microbiota, promoting better digestion and overall gut health.

Supercharged Tip: Better yet, take a prebiotic, probiotic, digestive enzyme and dietary fibre powerhouse like Lee’s Love Your gut Synbiotic blend

Hydrate with Gut-Friendly Drinks
Bring your own gut-friendly beverages like kombucha or kefir to parties. At least swap out a few alcoholic drinks with these gut-friendly alternatives.

Lee drops some of her Drops Of Jupiter (aka FHC)

Supercharged Tip: Served on ice in a glass they look like an alcoholic drink so no one needs to know, haha. Supercharge your hydration by adding a few drops of Love Your Gut Fulvic Humic concentrate. It’s one of the best sources of electrolytes available (and much, much, much better hydration than a sports drink).

Fibre-Packed Snacks
Pack some fibre-packed snacks like nuts, seeds, and fruits in your bag. Fibre supports healthy digestion and helps maintain a diverse gut microbiome.

Supercharged Tip: Love Your Gut diatomaceous earth powder or capsules are a super gentle way to clean your digestive system.

Mindful Eating Practices
Better your mindful than your belly. Practice mindful eating during large meals or social gatherings. Chew your food thoroughly, savor each bite, and be conscious of your body's hunger and fullness cues.

Supercharged Tip: Enjoy your food and the way it brings people together..

Herbal Teas for Digestion
Sometimes the old ideas are the best. Digestive herbal teas like peppermint or ginger can have soothing effects on the digestive system and may alleviate bloating or indigestion.

Tea and Lee are never far apart.

Supercharged Tip: Spend a little extra and buy organic and fair trade herbal teas. They are richer in flavour and goodness and make you feel better on many levels. Also, supercharge your hydration by adding a few drops of Love Your Gut Fulvic Humic concentrate.

Intermittent Fasting
Incorporate intermittent fasting into your routine when possible. Giving your digestive system a break for a certain period can allow it to rest and repair.

Supercharged Tip: Try the 16/8 fast in these fast times. The 16/8 fasting method, also known as time-restricted eating or intermittent fasting, involves cycling between periods of eating and fasting. In the 16/8 method, you fast for 16 hours each day and restrict your eating to an 8-hour window.
And when you want the full benefits of fasting check out Lee’s Fasting Program. Thousands of people have found success and found gut love.

Stay Active
A funny thing to say in this most active of seasons. But regular physical exercise supports gut health. Even during busy times, find ways to stay active, whether it's a quick workout, a short walk, or stretching.

Supercharged Tip: Take the stairs! Look for any and all ways to get your heat beat up a little.

Stress Management
Make simple stress management a part of your everyday. Deep breathing, meditation, or a yoga stretch.

Supercharged Tip: Take a deep breath as you read this.

Plan Balanced Meals
Plan your meals to ensure a balance of fibre, protein, healthy fats, and a variety of fruits and vegetables. This helps provide essential nutrients to your gut microbiome.

Supercharged Tip: Green, leafy vegetables are your friend this season.

Sleep Well
Prioritise quality sleep, as a lack of sleep can disrupt the balance of gut bacteria.

Supercharged Tip: Digi detox by 8pm every second evening (at least).

Get gut smart by thinking small
Remember, consistency is key when it comes to gut health. Small, mindful choices over time can contribute to a healthier gut, even during busy and social times.

Love, and all the best for you and your gut these holidays,
